First Daffodil of Spring
Here is the first daffodil of the year. I don’t know what happened to all my paperwhites. Maybe they got disappeared in all the garden remodeling.
In fact, I must say I am disappointed in the flower display from the hundreds of bulbs I planted 2 years ago and all the ‘Dutch Bulb Food’ they’ve received. All were carefully chosen for supposed ability to do well in Zone 9. Maybe they just need more time to become established. Ha!

Hmmmm. Here, bulbs don’t all flower at once ,so maybe things are just starting to wake up and get going. I’m quite a bit further north than you, so perhaps a more southerly gardener could offer more valuable comment.

Our daffodils are just coming out of the soil. I guess they’ll bloom in about a month…around Easter. We also call them “Easterbells”…What zone do you live?

How lovely to have a daffodil in bloom … ours are buried under lots and lots of snow and won’t be up for a few months yet.

Our daffodils are starting to emerge. You can see the little tips coming up but that’s about all!

Jodi: I moved here from New York, so I long accepted that spring bulbs here are going to make a poor showing because they don’t get enough winter chill. But a couple of years ago in Charleston I saw some lovely displays of spring bulbs and decided it was time to try harder. Maybe Charlestonians plant hundreds ever year. I don’t know. I expect at least some of mine to naturalize.
Barbara: We’re supposed to be Zone 8b, but lots of Zone 8 things won’t grow here, so I think we are really Zone 9.

Oh, you’re such a tease. We won’t have daffodils for another two months!

Jim: yes indeed. I remember we always got crocuses over the heating vents at Cornell on February 23!

I believe paperwhites bloom only every other year?

Oh, I didn’t know that. It would make sense as a matter of fact. Thanks, Liz.
